» IN THE AUDIENCE:

We hit the highway this past weekend on “The Road to Hollywood” as we visited the Tampa region and our state capital. First up was a trip across the everglades for our first ever Miss Brandon USA & Teen USA Pageants. The first event of the season in the western I-4 corridor had quite the turnout of traveling titleholders who witnessed a very competitive pageant. Director Brigittia Long and her Crown Couture Collective put together a fun evening in this first ever event.

Then Sunday it was up early to travel north on I-75 and west on I-10 to Tallahassee. Held on the Florida State University Campus at the Moore Auditorium another superlative group awaited. Under the first time direction of Beth Anderson Productions another competitive pageant awaited. With a full allotment of local press recording the results a big evening was had in the Capital City. Up next on our eternal pageant travels is a quick trip from our host city to Miramar for their first ever pageant.

» BIJOUX-TERNER SHOPPING TRIP

Check out the hat and shades!

Our Miss Florida USA 2011 Megan Clementi took the annual trip to The Miami Merchandise Mart for a shopping excursion at Bijoux-Terner. The king of affordable jewelry they have embraced a one price fits all concept. With large shopping bags Ms. Clementi had a fun filled day with Pageant Director Mary Lou Gravitt as many laughs ensued. Of course we had pictures to capture the moment so let’s go shopping with Megan!

» KUDOS & DID YOU KNOWS:

Kudos to Miss Lee County Teen USA, Nikki Lum and her little sister Katrina Lum, Little Sister Miss Florida Keys, Gina, and Little Sister Miss Lee County USA Aria Armstead  who were special guest at Ft. Myers “Art of the Olympians” sneak preview display and ribbon cutting.  Not only were they the talk of the event as special guests but they were also introduced at the event by the Olympians. Way to get involved in pageantry on an Olympic type scale ladies!

» Miss USA Speaks to NY Capital on Cancer Services Program:

Miss USA Kristen Dalton made a pit stop at the Capitol Thursday morning as a guest speaker to highlight the importance of the New York State Cancer Services Program. Yes, she was wearing her sash. Dalton, joined by several members of the Assembly, lobbied in support of the Cancer Services Program, which provides free breast, cervical and colon cancer screenings to uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers, but its fate in Gov. Paterson’s proposed budget is unclear.

The event was hosted by Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, D-Manhattan, who noted that the program saves the state $46 million annually through early detection and treatment. “I think it’s real important to come speak to the people that are making our polices and laws and deciding what our budget is going to be allocated for,” said Dalton, a breast and ovarian cancer research spokeswoman.

The governor’s proposed budget maintains the current Cancer Services Program, but without a specific appropriation for screening. “Breast cancer is a disease that can send a message of hope, because if it’s detected early it’s very preventable,” Dalton said. A North Carolina native, it was Dalton’s first trip up to Albany, but she did not get to stray far from the Capitol. “I haven’t really seen anything but this building,” Dalton said. “But everyone’s been really nice.” Dalton said she was going out to lunch in Albany before returning to New York City, where she’s lived for the past 10 months.
