On a very rainy and wintery South Florida December Sunday “The Road to Hollywood” visited the South Broward town of Miss Dania Beach USA/Teen USA. Held at the Hollywood Production Center Soundstages in nearby Hollywood this was the second edition of the event. A full and competitive field was greeted by the traditionally boisterous audience as the event was held in the historic town that once was the Tomato Capital of the Americas. Hosted by Miss Dania Beach Teen USA 2017 Emma Gillian and Miss Boca Raton Teen USA 2018 Lexi Hidalgo with assistance from Miss Dania Beach USA 2017 Natalee Edwards it was a fast and exciting day of fun and fashion.

When the day was over another two golden tickets were given to our state championships of pageantry next year just up the road in Ft. Lauderdale. Another fun year came to its conclusion with our holiday weekend in Broward County. Now we will enjoy the holidays but that doesn’t mean the season is over! We begin again on Saturday afternoon January 7th with our 6th annual Miss South Florida USA event that will take place on the soundstages of The Hollywood Production Center as we continue our 40+ pageant year for these regional events with pageantry fun. Of course, we will have full coverage every week all year here at with videos, pictures, results and recaps “In the Audience” right here at Faces & Places beginning Wednesday January 11th!

The perfect South Florida weekend awaited our Team Florida USA 2017 members Linette de los Santos (FLUSA 2016) Victoria DiSorbo on a glorious South Florida evening poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s spectacular pool space. The theme this year was Cartoons and Super Hero’s and they were all in the house as some real-life heroes joined the party. World heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield  was in the house as was some N’Sync members who greeted the weekends Grand Marshall Mr. 305/Mr. Worldwide the artist known as Pit Bull.

This Winterfest Celebration was all about welcoming our Grand Marshal and included dignitaries and celebrities who join us at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to celebrate, Winterfest style. This fabulous reception is the prelude to the parade and was by invitation only. Many local VIP’s, dignitaries, sponsors will be on hand to welcome this year’s celebrity Grand Marshal. Fort Lauderdale’s Mayor, Jack Seiler, gave Mr. Pit Bull a key to the town known as America’s Venice. Our Miss DiSorbo and Ms. de los Santos escorted the dignitaries onstage and took many images with the large gathering of paparazzi.

The evening concluded with onstage performances and the chance to meet and network with the members of the seventh largest public event in the United States. After several more photos with the evenings attendees it was off to the host hotel The Riverside on Las Olas for some much-needed rest before Saturday evenings Winterfest Boat Parade.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - It was an animated spectacle, headlined by an animated Grand Marshal. Dozens of boats, dolled up in their holiday best, set sail along the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale, as the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade delighted revelers for a 45th year, Saturday night.

Our Team Florida were featured participants that saw Linette de los Santos (Florida USA 2017) on the Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza Boat while Victoria DiSorbo (Miss Florida Teen USA 2017) was on the Galleria Boat. But not even a little rain could dampen the spirits of those who came to see the dazzling displays that had been worked on for weeks, and in some cases, months. Revelers told us they did not disappoint. “A little drizzly, but otherwise, the boats are fantastic,” said attendee Francis Padron. “We’re having a great time.”

Despite the wet weather, the show went on as scheduled along a 12-mile route on the dazzling New River, in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The parade drew praise from attendee Noelle Cox. “I feel like my Christmas tree doesn’t compare to some of these folks, and let me tell you, I go all out,” she said.

This year’s theme was “Comics & Cartoons Rockin’ the Night Away,” and attendees were quick to pick their favorites. “The Hard Rock [display]. It was just big, and it had a lot of lights,” said Robin Penzone.

But the parade’s Grand Marshal, Mr. 305 himself, was also popular among revelers. “It was fun seeing Pitbull and Santa Claus,” Sydney Herman said to the toddler she was holding in her arms. “Right, we liked seeing Santa Claus?” The girl nodded silently.

Caitlin Padron immediately recognized the popular music theme from one of the boats. “The Flintstones,” she said. Another vessel paid tribute to the long-running TV series “Gilligan’s Island,” but 2-year-old Noah wouldn’t know anything about that. “He’s 2, and it’s his first boat parade, so we’re excited to be here,” said Kristen Gagne.

Still, Noah was mesmerized by all the festive holiday trappings: Christmas sweaters, glow sticks and all those bright lights coming from the boats and mega yachts on the water. WSVN Fox Miami anchors Craig Stevens and Belkys Nerey certainly had a blast, as did a birthday lady, poncho and all, at this year’s spectacle, accurately dubbed “the greatest show on H2O.” “It was awesome, a great time,” said Matt Smith.

Cox said she’s grateful to live away from colder climates. “When you can experience 70 degrees? And we say, ‘Oh, we’re chilly,’ and up north we’re getting 10 inches of snow,'” she said. “We know we’re blessed to live in South Florida.” Organizers said more than 750,000 spectators were expected to line up to take in the sights. The parade is set to air on WSVN- Fox South Florida Channel 7on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. as well as Channel 7 NBC in Boston (Same station owner), with encore showings at 4 p.m. on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. Throughout Florida you can also watch on Fox Sports Florida at selected times during the holidays.
